Once upon a time I had national pride, but 4 months in Germany and a love for astronomy made my feelings for nationalism melt away. I took down my American and German national flags and decided to paint my favorite thing. First painting I’ve ever done

Schloss Lichtenstein- After the language course I went south into the German state of Baden Württemberg. There I stayed with a host family for about 2 1/2 weeks. They welcomed me with open arms and make me feel so very welcomed. It was a wonderful time and great for my German.
We also visited Ulm which has the worlds tallest church tower. Saw some art and experienced some new culture.
My host father and I went to an American car show and I got to see what kind of US culture interests Europeans.
It’s kind of difficult to express how my host parents made me feel so welcomed and how much they taught me in such little time. I’m very thankful for this experience.
3 Weeks in September I took an intensive language course. 6 hours a day every day of German grammar, urg, but it was a great learning experience. In such a short time I made wonderful friends from all around the world. It was a beautiful thing to be spending time with people from the other side of our beautiful planet, but yet it felt like we were all friends for years. I still have contact with many of them, and I will always hold them close to my heart. Together there were 50 students(although this picture is of my smaller class), 10 came from Poland, so now I have lots of Polish friends and I am even taking some Polish lessons.
As someone who has been gifted as being well traveled this wonderful 3 weeks concreted a one major idea. We are all humans, we are all a like, and given the small chance we can become great friends. Nationality was irrelevant, we were just humans trying to learn a new language together while making new friends.
These 3 weeks will be vividly in my memory until the day I die.

Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. I took this picture last September. For about a year I did paperwork, e-mails, and lots of organizing to come to this University. I’m finally here, and have been here for a few months. Been so busy I haven’t made a single post of it.
I was my dream to study in Germany, and now I’m doing it. Further posts will be of my adventures. Stay tuned
So I haven’t used tumblr in a VERY long time, but I plan on using this again, maybe as a journal of my wonderful time in Germany and about the world all together.
